We flew to Queenstown this morning on the South Island.
We are operating without a car on the South Island, so we took a taxi to where we are staying. We then took a city bus into town to pick up fuel for our backpacker stove and our permits for the hike.
We are doing the Routeburn Track, a hut-to-hut hike. We spent some in Queenstown which is SO beautiful! We saw looks of backpackers and travelers from all over. Here are a few photos.
After getting our last supplies and dinner, we went back to our lodging and spent the evening packing our packs for the next 5 days. We are taking the absolute minimum plus food, stove, sleeping bags, etc. We'll leave the rest of our luggage here to pick up when we return on Friday.
The shuttle picks us up at about 7:30 am tomorrow and we're off for an adventure. We heard the weather will be cold, windy (32 F) with some rain - yikes!! We'll be without Internet for several days so won't be posting on our blog again until we're done with the hike. :-)
